Trajan Scientific and Medical (Trajan) welcomed Federal Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, Hon. Greg Hunt MP to the company’s Global Corporate Headquarters in Melbourne today. The visit provided the opportunity for Trajan to showcase its leadership approach to leveraging academic and commercial partnerships to deliver innovative solutions to the global scientific and medical market. The Trajan team was also able to share their passion to see Australia build sustainable knowledge-based industries to underpin the countries future prosperity.
Chief Executive Officer of Trajan, Stephen Tomisich comments: "Trajan identified the opportunity to leverage its impact through collaboration with academia and start-ups, some time ago. To have Minister Hunt here shows his genuine interest in what we are already doing. We are enthused and excited by the Government’s refreshed recognition of the importance of innovation for the nation’s prosperity.”
Minister Hunt’s tour of Trajan’s Global Headquarters comes just 12 months after Prime Minister Turnbull also visited the site highlighting the need for a national innovation and science agenda.
Minister Hunt today confirmed his commitment to the Prime Minister’s vision, announcing plans to release a report showing every $1 spent on innovation returns $2 revenue for Australian companies.
Minister Hunt said: “In just over a year since we launched National Innovation and Science Agenda the Turnbull Government has implemented major initiatives to boost investment, generate jobs and improve the quality of our lives.”
“Our agenda helps businesses embrace risk and it encourages investment, which is not only good for our economy but it also supports Australians who want to start a business and have a go.”
“I was very impressed with what I saw at Trajan recently and they are a great example of what we are trying to achieve.”
Mr Tomisich continues: “Trajan is a strong advocate of the need to rollout new models to not only fund, but nurture innovative start-ups. Trajan’s view is that it isn’t just about those start-ups “crossing the Valley of Death”, but also about creating long term economic benefit through the creation of new Australian-based enterprise.”
During the visit the Minister witnessed Trajan’s range of innovative niche technologies that now sees it in a global leadership role in many scientific applications. He also reviewed the company’s collaborative approach to leveraging its new technology pipeline towards a future vision of the “personalization of science”.
Mr Tomisich concluded: “Science is moving from the lab towards all of us as individuals, connecting with our smart devices, bringing more information into view for better wellbeing outcomes.”
Today’s discussions with Minister Hunt also covered Trajan’s innovative partnerships with the University of Tasmania and The University of Adelaide, demonstrating many of the Government’s longer term goals around collaboration and supporting start-ups, with the aim of translating ideas into commercially viable technologies, are already underway.
Mr Michael Sukkar, Federal Member for Deakin, Victoria commented he was proud to have a business like Trajan in his electorate: “Trajan’s business model supports start-up companies, and with its focus on collaboration, there is a very bright future for local innovation, research and development, manufacturing and industry.”
Mr Tomisich concludes it is an honor to be able to share Trajan’s story with Minister Hunt: “Trajan’s vision is that through science interfacing with society, we can impact the well-being of a growing number of communities globally. We are committed to having an active involvement with both government and academia to drive Trajan’s collaborative model, supporting growth of the scientific industry in Australia.”
